For many, iced tea is like an instant pick-me-up especially in summers. You may also prefer iced tea over other sugary drinks thinking that it is a healthy alternative. It may not be a smart choice especially if you are on a weight loss goal. If you thought iced tea was a low-calorie drink, you are wrong. A glass of iced tea can contain as much as 200 calories. Well-known nutritionist Priya Kathpal tells you more. Store-bought iced teas not only contain artificial ingredients but lots of added sugar. Iced tea may contain as much sugar as your daily recommended sugar intake in just one glass. One glass of iced tea contains around 60g of sugar so consuming 3-4 glasses of iced tea each week can sabotage your weight loss goals. To give you an insight, we have got you the calorie counts of different flavours of iced tea you love. Also, find out the calorie  count of your favourite coffee.
  • 1 glass lemon iced tea = 99.6 cal
  • 1 glass raspberry iced tea = 102.9 calories
  • 1 glass peach iced tea = 138.9 cal
  • 1 glass apple cinnamon iced tea = 154.8 cal
  • 1 glass Nestle iced tea = 188.8 cal
However, preparing your iced tea at home can be a better option. Store-bought iced teas are also said to contain fewer antioxidants as compared to freshly brewed teas. If you are preparing iced tea at home, try adding fresh berries and in-season fruits to make it naturally sweet. Adding herbs to your tea can make it even healthier. Also, do not brew your tea for too long as it can lower the amount of antioxidants. Steep your tea for not more than 3-4 minutes. These herbal teas  can help you slim down.
